Piano Teacher Jobs In Miami
The Philadelphia Piano Institute is Hiring
The Philadelphia Piano Institute, one of the Northeast’s most highly sought after destinations for piano lessons, is expanding into Miami, FL. At this time, we are seeking an experienced and skilled piano teacher for pre-college pianists in student homes.
We love helping students of all ages and ability levels reach their goals on the piano, and we are happy to apply our vast pedagogical knowledge to a student’s specific goals and aspirations. We teach fundamentals like reading, theory, rhythm, and technique, and we enjoy applying those fundamentals to various genres and musical types.
Our Aspiration: To Help Musicians in Miami Become Confident and Independent
Our Core Teaching Beliefs
We strive to help our students express themselves independently at the piano, not simply learn one or two pieces by rote and perform them in an annual recital or contest. We want students to feel comfortable sight reading, playing with great technique, analyzing music, and even writing music if they so desire. We want our students to be well-rounded and able to apply their learnings to any genre they want to pursue. In short:
We believe in a well-rounded, all-inclusive style of piano teaching
We do use piano methods, but we believe that a skilled teacher can pick and choose which method materials best apply to their student’s needs
We want to help students love music and play the music that they want to play. We do not enforce specific pieces of repertoire or any dogmas
We deeply care about rapport and the student-teacher relationship
What We Expect From Our Instructors
General Qualifications
Because of the varied and diverse student body we have at the Institute, we ask that our teachers be equally enthusiastic about teaching kids and teens
We also prefer to work with piano teachers who genuinely care about their student’s happiness and love of music. We expect you to personalize lessons to accommodate a student’s specific interests when at all possible.
Third (on the topic of personalization), we would ask that you be flexible regarding repertoire and material selection. Sometimes students want to prepare a set of holiday tunes, or perhaps they love the music of Ray Charles or a particular hymn writer. You may need to step away from Jane Magrath’s “The Pianist’s Guide…” to find suitable music for your student.
Job Responsibilities:
Teach one-on-one lessons to precollege students
Teach live online lessons if/when necessary
Remain committed to ongoing education and pedagogical improvement
Educational Requirements
Masters degrees in piano pedagogy are preferred. Other MMus degrees may be considered with commensurate experience.
We will consider teachers with a BMus degree if they present outstanding teaching experience and pedagogical knowledge
Professional Experience
Professional experience teaching 1-on-1 piano lessons
Supervised experience in a piano teaching practicum is preferred
Demonstration of a professional level of piano playing
Compensation + Benefits
Pay is hourly, starting at $34/hr
The opportunity to contribute by-lined articles, research, or video recordings to the Philadelphia Piano Institute blog (you will be compensated)
